Three people were fatally injured in a two-vehicle accident in the Bogue Chitto community early Friday morning.

Sheriff Tommy Waddell said the accident occurred about 5:45 a.m. on Mississippi 491 at the intersection of County Road 767.

The three people were traveling in a small passenger car when it turned onto Mississippi 491 and was struck by a northbound commercial feed truck, Waddell said.

“The female driver pulled out into ongoing traffic and the truck struck the driver’s side of the car,” Waddell said.

The female and two adult male passengers, all members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians,  were  pronounced dead at the scene.

Waddell said their names were being withheld pending notification of family members.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Responding to the accident were Sheriff’s deputies, Neshoba EMS and East Neshoba Volunteer Fire Department.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
