Two Neshoba County men were arrested and charged with several counts of burglary in connection with a recent string of burglaries in the county.

Billy Withers, 24, 10202 Road 246, and Marcus Smith, 26, Road 325, Union, were arrested on June 27 and charged with multiple counts of burglary and misdemeanor false pretense. Withers was charged with five counts of burglary, while Smith was charged with four counts of burglary and a motor vehicle theft count.

Both men were denied bond.

Sheriff Tommy Waddell said that his department had been investigating several burglaries including a shed burglary in the Hope community involving the theft of power tools, a home burglary in Tucker where the suspects stole tools and an air conditioning unit and a burglary in the Linwood community where the suspects removed household items and clothing from the home.

According to Waddell, the investigation led to Withers and Smith and a third suspect that the Sheriff intends to arrest soon. Most of the stolen items were located, he said.

Deputies also made a felony drug arrest June 30 after a homeowner called the authorities about a suspicious individual walking around in her yard in the Fairview community.

Deputies then made contact with Shane Alexander Bell, 22, 140 Sunny Jones Road, after a traffic stop.

Bell was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

He is being held in the Neshoba County jail on a $20,000 bond.
