Spring Fling

Pine Grove Church of God-Edinburg annual Spring Fling will be held Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the church grounds. Bo Surber's famous BBQ ribs (plates or racks) available at 11 a.m.; a Sweet Shop with a huge variety of desserts;  games with prizes and face painting for all ages and an auction in the afternoon are just some of the activities and events planned throughout the day. The Neshoba County Public Library is seeking donations for its upcoming summer reading program. Needed items include gently used stuffed animals and toys which will be used as prizes during the program. Donations may be dropped off at the library during regular operating hours. Sunrise Service

Pine Grove Church of God in Dixon will have Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and morning worship at 9 a.m.

Dixie Melody Boys

Beat Line Revival

Revival services will be held at Beat Line Baptist Church, April 27-30, Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. Dr. Kevin Meador, evangelist, and Reuben and Faye Moore, music.

Spring Revival

Providence Baptist Church will host its annual spring revival on Sunday, April 27 at 6 p.m. and on Monday-Thursday at 7:15 p.m. Pastor Marvin Chapman of New Hebron will be the evangelist for the week. The public is invited.

BBQ Plates

Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Gilmer lost their home and contents on April 9 due to a house fire. In an effort to help them we will be selling pre-tickets for squealers BBQ plates. We will also have baked goods for sale that day. location for pick-up will be at Madden Convenient store from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Genealogist speaks

On April 9, the Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society met in the Ramzy room of the Carthage-Leake County Library.

The speaker for the program was Ms Ann Breedlove, Genealogy Clerk for the Attala County Library. Ms Breedlove is very knowledgeable and has many years of experience in genealogy research. She shared several books that would be helpful in tracing ones family from the North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia areas. This is the most common route for many of our ancestors to travel on their way to their new homes.

This was a very interesting and enlightening program enjoyed by everyone present. We were pleased to welcome several visitors and new members.

Easter Egg Hunt

Children of all ages are invited to a Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at North Bend United Methodist Church, directly off Highway 21. Eggs will be hidden everywhere and ready to be hunted by children of all ages. Some lucky hunters will find eggs with special prizes in them. Along with the Easter Egg Hunt there will be age-appropriate arts and crafts and of course Easter-themed refreshments to be enjoyed. There is no fee to participate. Book Drive

The Junior Auxiliary of Philadelphia is holding its second annual "Read for Ann Marie" Book Drive this April. New or gently used children's books can be dropped off at the following locations: Kademi, Knots, Gipson Cleaners, Citizens National Bank, The Citizens Bank of Philadelphia Westside, Jerome Tank Season 2 Season, Ronnie's Steak N Grill, Philadelphia Elementary School or Neshoba Central Elementary School. The books will be picked up on April 24. Books will be distributed to area preschool children on April 28.

Lone Pilgrim

The extra session of the Lone Pilgrim District of Christian Education will be held at Harmony Baptist Church of Lena on Saturday, April 19 at 9 a.m. Dr. Johnny Barnes of Providence Baptist Church is the moderator.

Sunrise Service

at Salem

Salem Baptist Church in the Burnside community will have an Easter sunrise service on Sunday, April 20 at 6 a.m. The choir will present a mini-cantata followed by a sermon by Bro. Morgan. Lord's Supper participation will be last in the service. Breakfast will be served by the men of the church after service. An Easter egg hunt for the younger children will follow.

Mother's Day/ Memorial Day at Salem

Salem will hold their annual Mother's Day/Memorial Day on Sunday, May 4. A program will begin at 10:30 a.m. after which lunch will be served in the family life building. All former members, friends and current members are cordially invited to come enjoy the day with us. May 4 is our annual homecoming at Salem.

Benefit Concert

A concert benefiting Hunter Rogers will be held Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at Noxapater Baptist Church located at 156 West Alice St., Noxapater. Special guests include Adam Crabb, Sean Greer and The Wells Brothers. A love offering will be taken up for Hunter Rogers and his family. 'Business Plan' Workshop

"How To Develop A Business Plan" is the topic of a workshop for existing small business owners and future entrepreneurs about the importance of establishing a sound and well-organized business plan. It is sponsored by East Central Community College's Small Business Development Center.

Community Choir Membership

We are about to start a choir that will include the entire community for our young people. We have lots of talent in our youth that needs to be brought to life.

God's Closet

God's Closet, a mission of First United Methodist Church, is encouraging families with students ages 4-years up to 18-years-old to register for school clothing and supplies that are free or charge. The mission is located in the Valley View Shopping Center and serves customers on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. To register you must present a birth certificate for each child and show two proofs of residency in Neshoba County. Donations of gently worn school clothing and uniforms many be dropped off at God's Closet on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.


In celebration of National Library Week, the Friends of the Neshoba County Public Library will hold a book sale Monday-Friday, April 14-18 inside the library beginning at 8 each morning. ECCC Choir, Ac'cents To Hold Auditions

The East Central Community College Concert Choir and Ac'cents show choir will hold auditions at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24 in the Vickers Fine Arts Center on the Decatur Campus, Members of the Concert Choir receive half tuition scholarships and those selected for Ac'cents receive a full tuition scholarship.

Mississippi Loggers Association Central District will hold its annual Log-A-Load auction on April 26 at 6 p.m. Fish and chicken plates for adults are $10 and children 12 and under are $5.

We will start serving at 4 p.m. It will be held at Mars Hill Volunteer Fire Department at the intersection of Road 397 and Mars Hill Road.

This will benefit the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.

Spring Revival

Registration for Neshoba County Youth Football and Cheer

Neshoba County Youth Football and Cheer is offering Early Bird Registration beginning February 28 and ending July 12. Cheer registration will be $85.00 as opposed to $100; includes a complete uniform. Five and 6 year old tackle is $40 as opposed to $50.

Seven to 12 year old tackle is $50 as opposed to $65. After the July 12 deadline all Early Bird prices will be void and registrants will be required to pay the regular in season fee. A copy of a live birth certificate is also required of each registrant.

Neshoba County Youth provides game jersey and game pants for all football season which is to be returned at the end of the season.

A lunch is also provided on in season away games for every child that is a part of cheer and tackle. There is an End of Year Banquet where awards for each child are provided during the banquet.

Tutors Available

Parents, do your children need help with homework? Tutors are available on Mondays at the Booker T. Gym starting Monday, March 17 from 5-6 p.m.

This is for students in grades K-8 in subjects: reading/language arts and math.

Students will be tutored by retires teachers and/or volunteer teachers from our school districts, as well as administrators and parents from within the community.

All parents are responsible for their children getting to and from the gym.

Registration for Neshoba Pre-K

Registration for the pre-kindergarten program at Neshoba Central has been set for May. The Pre-Kindergarten Program is located at the Neshoba County Parent Resource Center building at Valley View.

Students are screened for enrollment by a pre-kindergarten test. The classes will begin and end to coincide with the regular school term at Neshoba County Schools. Participating students' parents will be require to provide transportation to and from the center. Anyone having a 4-year-old child and wishing for the child to be tested for the pre-K program must come to the Parent Resource Center to register the child between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on May 5-9.

It is not necessary for your child to be present on the day of registration. If all registration materials are presented, an appointment will be assigned for your child to be screened for placement.

To register a child for the pre-k screening, parents must provide: two proofs of residence in Neshoba County School District, the child's certified birth certificate, the child's Social Security card, the child's state certificate of immunization compliance and CDIB if applicable.
