A Philadelphia man faces multiple charges after police responded to a call Monday of shots being fired in the vicinity of the football field at Booker T. Washington Park.

James Peeples, 32, of 10716 Road 616, was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance and escape.

Chief of Police Grant Myers said when an officer arrived at Booker T., he observed a suspect holding an assault rifle.

“The suspect, Peeples,  tossed the rifle in a truck as the officer approached,” Myers said. “He was taken into custody and placed in the back of a patrol car. As the officer was retrieving the rifle, Peeples managed to get out of the car. After a short foot chase, he was taken into custody again and charged.”
