A Philadelphia man remained in fair condition at a Jackson hospital Friday following a two-vehicle accident on Mississippi 19 south Wednesday.

Christopher "Chase" Fairchild, 18, of Philadelphia was seriously injured in the accident which occurred near House grocery at 5:27 p.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Andy West said.

West said Fairchild was driving a Toyota Camry north on Mississippi 19 when he crossed the line and struck the front left side of 2009 Dodge Ram.

After the collision, the wheel assembly from the Ram came off and struck a third vehicle, a Nissan Maxima.

Philadelphia Fire Chief Pierce Clark said rescue crews had to cut away the roof and both driver side doors of the Camry to remove Fairchild, who was pinned from the waist down.

After being extricated, Fairchild was taken to House Grocery and airlifted directly to the University Medical Center in Jackson where he remains in fair condition.

"No one in the other vehicles was injured," West said.

The cause of the accident has not been determined, he added.
