Gerald Allen “Boots” Howell was remembered this week as a great storyteller, musician and inventor and for his stance against the Ku Klux Klan in the 1960s.

Services for Howell, 94, will be Saturday at 4 p.m. from St. Francis Episcopal Church, which he was instrumental in establishing in 1964.
  • Services for Ms. Mary Frances Sam were at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Redwater Gym with burial in Old Mt. Zion Cemetery.

    Visitation began at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the home of Mark Sam, 1514 North Jordan St. Carthage.

    John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
  • Services for Mrs. Mageline “Maggie” Polk Gibson were at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with burial in Old Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation began at noon Thursday, May 11, 2017, at her home, 125 Robinson Road West in Carthage.

    John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
  • Serviced for Ms. Patty Carol Shoemake were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Pearl River Facility Building with burial in the Conehatta Community Cemetery.

    Visitation began at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Pearl River Facility Building. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

    Ms. Shoemake, 53, died on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. 
  • Services for Joshua Hickman were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Pearl River Baptist Church with burial in Phillips Cemetery.

    Visitation began at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Pearl River Baptist Church. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

     Mr. Hickman, 31, died on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Choctaw Residential Center in Choctaw.
  • Services for Ms. Doris Elouise Savell were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. Chester Carlisle officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

    Ms. Savell, 69, died on Monday, May 8, 2017, at Anderson Hospital. She lived in Neshoba County all of her life. She worked at Wells Lamont Corporation for many years.
  • Services for Ms. Mertlean Johnson Williams were at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Mars Hill Pentecostal Church-Winston County.

    Reverends Bryan Madison, Jimmy Mangrum,  Johnny Jones officiating. Burial was in Liberty Baptist Cemetery.  John E. Stephens Chapel was in charge.

    Ms. Williams, 84, died on  Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Neshoba County Nursing Home. She was a licensed practical nurse and a member of Mars Hill Pentecostal Church.
  • Services for Charles Ray Greenwood were at 10 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. Don Savell and Rev. Brian Weir officiating. Burial was in Arlington Baptist Cemetery.

    Mr. Greenwood, 51, died on  Thursday, May 11, 2017 ,at Neshoba County General Hospital. He was a building contractor.  He was a member of Arlington Baptist Church.

    He as preceded in death by his father, Charles (Dan) Greenwood.
  • Services for Leonard “Foots” “Bread Man” Waddell were held Monday, May 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Wayne Hill and Rev. Chester Carlisle officiating.  

    Burial followed in Linwood Cemetery in Neshoba County.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Waddell, 81, of Philadelphia, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at his residence.
  • Services for Dale Owens were Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 11 a. m. from McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bernie Gerald, Rev. Ron Laney, Rev. Doug Feazell and Rev. Glynn Pope officiating.  Burial was in Hester Cemetery in Neshoba County.

    Mr. Owens, 76, of Brandon, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at his residence.
  • Graveside services for Eloyce Webb Tullos were Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 10 a. m. from Morrow Cemetery in the Dixon community with Rev. Kory Duncan  officiating.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Mrs. Tullos, 98, of Laurel, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Laurel, Miss.
