All adult and youth league bowlers want to wish "Killer" Evans a speedy recovery from his health scare. We hope you are able to return to bowling for the summer league. We are all praying for you.

The Thursday Night League has come to an end. Last week the winners of the first 16 week season, the Turkey Hunters, competed in a roll-off with the winners of the second 16 week season, the Hog Dogs, to decide who is the ultimate first place winner. In the end, after a 4-0 win, the Hog Dogs walk away as the champions.

Congratulations Chris "Boot" Powell, Dustin "Sooie" Headley, Daniel Powell, and Nick Headley!

While the top two teams battled it out last Thursday, the other league members participated in a 9-pin no tap tournament. Zach Whatley was the winner of the fun night event. Hope all have enjoyed this league and will continue on for the summer league, or if taking a break, will be back in the fall.

The organizational meeting for the Thursday Night Summer League will be next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Depot Bowling. The league will start the following week (May 9). If you are interested or have questions, please call Gary at 601-656-0770.

The featured team this week is the "Bowlerettes." Ruby Breazeale, Sue Saxon, Gail Coats, Betty Durant, and Glenda Thornton make up this all ladies team.

Ruby is retired from the Neshoba County Election Commission for District 1. She is currently a volunteer at the Auxiliary Gift Shop at Neshoba County General Hospital. Bowling in Meridian on the Bowlerettes League was when her interest began. This is the first time she has been on a league in Philadelphia. Ruby has enjoyed meeting new people, competing against new teams, and having a good time. She is thankful for the clean environment and family oriented fun that Depot Bowling has to offer. "I enjoy bringing my grandchildren so they can play games, skate, and eat," she said.

Sue is retired. She league bowled for many years in Meridian and participated in many city and state tournaments. "For me, bowling is relaxing," Sue said.

Gail taught math for Philadelphia, Neshoba Central, and ECCC but now enjoys volunteering at the Auxiliary Gift Shop at NCGH. She became interested in bowling when Sue asked her to be on a team and friends insisted. Although this is her first season at Depot Bowling, she has bowled at the facility once located at Prince Oil and for about 6 years in Meridian. Gail says the league offers a good time, a chance to get a little exercise, and the opportunity to laugh.

Betty is enjoying retirement but is keeping busy making biscuits in the deli at Northside Shortstop. She became interested in bowling in 1964 while accompanying her Air Force husband stationed in Canada. Other bowling locations have been in Texas and Meridian. Due to surgery, Betty quit bowling for 20 years, but is now trying to get back in it. She is thoroughly enjoying the Thursday Night League for its clean, no smoking, no drinking atmosphere and that it is close to home. "It's the perfect league," she said. " Everyone is friendly. I have a lot of fun."

Glenda is retired. Friends joining a league in 1990 is when she became interested in bowling and loved it. She was part of the Meridian Bowlerettes League. She had been off of leagues for about 4 or 5 years before she decided to return as a substitute. Glenda is enjoying the fellowship, the girls night out activity, and the mixed league format. She says the mixed format has taught her that "men are more competitive than women."

Neshoba Central High School is now handing out parental permission slips for the bowling team try-outs. If you are interested in being a part of the team, see Coach Blount for more information and the paperwork. Girls try-outs are scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd. Boys are scheduled for May 13th and 14th.

Here are the recent results from league action this past week at Depot Lanes.
