East Central plans ribbon cutting for Turf field

East Central Community College will officially unveil its new synthetic turf field during a ribbon-cutting scheduled Monday, Aug. 25 on the Decatur campus.
Members of the 2014 East Central Community College men’s soccer team scrimmage on the new synthetic turf at Bailey Stadium in preparation for the 2014 campaign. The Soccer Warriors begin season action with a 4 p.m. matchup Friday at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit.
The special ceremony is part of the annual "Meet the Warriors" Pep Rally/Introduction of Athletes, scheduled at 6:30 p.m. at Bailey Stadium.
Activities begin with a welcome from ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart, followed by the playing of the Warrior Fight Song by the Wall O' Sound Marching Band. Hunter Corhern serves as director of bands and Ed Girling is assistant director.
Next on the agenda is the introduction of student-athletes and performances by the Warrior Cheerleaders and the Centralettes, the dance line for the Wall O' Sound Marching Band.
First-year cheer coach Pauline Karcher will introduce squad members, followed by the recognition of Centralettes by coordinator/choreographer Tina Sanders.
Soccer coaches Gray Massey and Kenneth Thompson will introduce members of their respective Lady Warrior and Warrior squads. Season action begins at 2 p.m. Friday, August 22, at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit.
Ken Karcher, who begins his second year as Warrior head football coach, will introduce his assistant coaches and team members. He will also recognize captains for the season opener, scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony follows the recognition of football players. The Wall O' Sound Marching Band will perform the Warrior Fight Song to conclude activities.
