The Leake Academy Lady Rebels are on a mission as they concluded their 2017-2018 regular season and started post season action this week. They will enter the District 2-AAA tournament on Thursday as the No. 1 seed in the girls bracket. The tournament is being held at Heritage Academy. They will play the winner between Heritage and Winston in the 6:30 p.m. game.

The Lady Rebels are on a quest to regain the Class AAA state championship. Kirk beat them in the state tournament in the semifinals last season, ending their long streak of state championships.

“This is our time of the year,” Coach Amanda Hatch said. “We didn’t win the state championship last year. I think this year’s team will have a better chance.

“We have been working on our shooting and it has come around.”

The Lady Rebels entered the week with a 27-3 record. They are ranked No. 2 in a statewide poll for Class AAA girls teams.

The Leake Academy boys were to play Winston Academy Tuesday in an elimination game. The winner will play Heritage Academy Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Leake Academy concluded the regular season last Friday by sweeping Hartfield Academy. The Lady Rebels won their game 54-27 while the Leake Academy boys won their game with a 55-45 victory.

The Lady Rebels settled the issue early as they took a 30-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Hannah Smith led with 14 points while Bailey Breedlove scored 11. Clancy Scott finished with 10.

Hartfield led the Leake Academy boys 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Rebels came back strong in the second quarter, outscoring Hartfield 22-13. At the half, Leake Academy led 31-24. The Rebels added to their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Hartfield 16-7. Leake Academy carried a 47-31 lead into the final quarter and held on for the win.

Keric Estep led with 17 points Daniel Young and Will Watkins both added 11 points.
