The Leake Academy Lady Rebels scored a couple of solid victories last week in prep basketball action as they improved their record to 12-3 on the season.

The Lady Rebels picked up a district win as they rolled over Canton Academy 56-38. They then took a 57-26 win over Jackson Prep.

The Leake Academy boys went 0-for-2. They dropped a 58 loss to Canton Academy and then lost 45-42 to Jackson Prep. The Rebels entered the week with a 6-4 record.

The Rebel teams were to host the Jackson Victors Tuesday night. They will be off until next Wednesday when they play in the Simpson Academy tournament. The schedule is as follows:

Canton Academy 38

The Lady Rebels took control of this game in the first quarter and held on to score a district win.

Leading 19-6 after the first quarter, the Lady Rebels outscored Canton 18-7 in the second quarter and led 37-13 at the half. Canton outscored the Lady Rebels 25-19 in the second half.

Sydni Tangle led with 19 points and Ashley Smith scored seven.

Jackson Prep 26

It was more of the same against Jackson Prep as Leake Academy went up 41-14 at the half.

Tangle, Molly Davis and Kelsey Tangle all led with nine points while Bailey Breedlove added eight.


Canton Academy 58

Canton Academy pulled away in the second half as they topped Leake Academy in a district game.

Canton led 12-11 after the first quarter. Both teams scored 11 points in the second period and Canton Academy led 23-22 at the half.

The Rebels were limited to eight points in the third quarter while Canton Academy scored 17 and led 40-30 heading into the fourth quarter. Canton outscored the Rebels 18-10 in the final quarter to take the win.

Keric Estep led with 10 points while Daniel Young and Will Watkins both scored nine points.


Jackson Prep 45

Leake Academy came on strong in the fourth quarter but fell three points short to Jackson Prep.

Prep led 12-7 after the first quarter. The Rebels outpointed Prep 13-10 in the second period and trailed 22-20 at the half. Prep outscored the Rebels 15-8 in the third quarter and carried a 37-28 lead into the final quarter. The Rebels battled back, outscoring Prep 14-8 in the final quarter.

Daniel Young led with 19 points.
