The Leake Academy Lady Rebels have started the season with a 4-1 record as they picked up three victories last week in prep basketball action.

The Lady Rebels defeated Columbia 62-26, Bowling Green 57-16 and Oak Hill 79-37.

Leake Academy has three games set for this week as they host Kirk Academy on Tuesday, East Rankin on Thursday and then travel to Columbia Academy on Friday.

“We are going through a stretch where we will be playing some tough competition,” Coach Amanda Hatch said. “That will help make us better once we get into district play.”

The Leake Academy boys will see their first action this week.

Against Columbia Academy, the Lady Rebels jumped out to a 38-21 halftime lead and then dominated the second half. Hannah Smith led with 19 points while Sydni Tangle added 12 points.

The Lady Rebels kept Bowling Green in single digits for each quarter as they led 39-11 at the half. Smith led with 22 points.

Oak Hill had Leake Academy tied at 26-26 at the half. After regrouping during the intermission, the Lady Rebels outscored Oak Hill 37-11 in the third quarter to settle the issue. Ashley Smith led with 16 points while Clancy Scott scored 11 and Molly Davis put in 10 points.

In action from the week before, Leake Academy split a pair of games in the Canton Academy tournament. They blew out Carroll Academy 68-17 and then dropped a 44-41 decision to Lamar School.

Leake Academy’s shooting went cold in their game with Lamar School, especially in the second quarter. The Lady Rebels carried a 15-14 lead into the second quarter. They would only score three points during the eight-minute span while the Lady Raiders put in 12 points. Lamar led 26-18 at the half.
