The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets dropped a couple of close region games last week.

The Lady Rockets lost 53-51 to Holmes County and 48-46 to Canton High School. On Friday, Neshoba Central defeated Southeast Lauderdale 44-37.

“We just haven’t learned to put a game away,” Coach Fred Morris said. “We just didn’t respond very well to the pressure.”

The Lady Rockets entered the week at 11-13 and 1-5 in the region standings. They close out the regular season this week with a trip to Cleveland Central on Tuesday and a trip to Laurel High School on Friday.

Against Holmes County, the Lady Rockets led 18-17 at the half. Holmes outpointed the Lady Rockets 23-20 in the second half as they took the win. Taylor Ben and Hallie Billie both scored 13 points for the Lady Rockets.

Neshoba Central led 28-18 at the half in its game with Canton. But the Lady Tigers held Neshoba Central to four points in the third quarter while scoring 13. Neshoba Central led 32-31 going into the final quarter. But Canton hit some three-point shots during the final quarter and outpointed the Lady Rockets 17-14 for the victory. Billie led with 11 points.

Neshoba Central scored 23 points in the third quarter as they pulled past Southeast Lauderdale in a non-region game. Ben led with 12 points and Billie added 10.

The Neshoba Central boys lost to three games last week, falling to Holmes County, Canton 54-44 and Southeast Lauderdale 51-50. No other information was available.

The Rocket teams will play in the region tournament next week at Cleveland Central.
