Lady Rockets gain 5-win week

The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets made a statement last week in Class 5A girls fast-pitch softball as they rolled up five victories and won the Tupelo tournament.
The defending Class 5-A fast-pitch state champion Lady Rockets never trailed during any of those five games. Combined, the Lady Rockets scored 65 runs and had 62 hits. They allowed 11 runs and 22 hits in those games with 10 of the hits coming vs. Tishomingo County.
"We are playing very well right now," Coach Trae Embry said. "We had a big week. We beat very good competition. But we don't look back. We take them one game at a time."
The Lady Rockets entered the week with a 12-1 record. Last week, they defeated Philadelphia 10-0 and Clarkdale 16-0 before traveling to Tupelo tournament. On Friday, they defeated Nettleton 6-0. On Saturday, they stopped Tishomingo County 18-6, and then they closed out with a 15-5 win over Tupelo.
Neshoba Central has three games slated for this week. The Lady Rockets will host Northwest Rankin on Tuesday. They then visit Ridgeland for a Region 3-5A game on Friday and Clinton on Saturday.
Neshoba Central 10
The Lady Rockets jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in their win over the Lady Tornadoes.
The Lady Rockets added two more runs in the fifth inning and finished with 10 hits.
Hailey Lunderman and Madalyn McMahon both hit a triple and a single and combined for three RBIs to lead the Lady Rockets.
Asphen Wesley was the winning pitcher.
Neshoba Central 16
The Lady Rockets outhit Clarkdale 14-2 as they dominated over four innings.
Neshoba Central scored four in the first, three in the second, one in the third and eight in the fourth.
Kayla Robertson hit a home run and a double while McMahon added a home run and a single. Hannah Williams and Lunderman had two singles and a RBI. Kayla Willis, Katlyn Duke, Laken Winstead and Jasmine Chickaway all had a hit. Meg Martin was the winning pitcher.
Neshoba Central 6
The Lady Rockets scored two in the first, two in the second and two in the third as they eased past Nettleton.
Lunderman led with a double and a single and a RBI. Robertson hit a double and had two RBIs. Williams hit a double and Duke hit a single and had a RBI.

Tishomingo County 6
The Lady Rockets banged out 18 hits as they pulled away from Tishomingo County.
Neshoba Central scored four in the first, four in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and five in fifth. Tishomingo County answered with one in the second, three in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Kayla McKinion was the winning pitcher. She helped her cause with four strikes. At the plate, she had three hits and two RBIs.
Ail Pike hit a triple, a double and a single and had one RBI. Williams had three hits and four RBIs. Robertson had three hits, a RBI and four stolen bases. McMahon hit a double and two singles and had one RBI. Lunderman hit a triple and a single and had one RBI.

The Lady Rockets came up with a nine-run second inning to put this one away early.
Of their 14 hits, the Lady Rockets hit three home runs. Duke hit a home run and a double and brought in three runs. Lunderman hit a home run and a double and finished with two RBIs. McMahon hit a home run and had one RBI. Hannah Williams hit a triple and a single and had two RBIs. Ali Pike had two hits. Meg Martin had a hit and two RBIs.
