The Union Lady Yellowjackets went 3-1 last week in prep basketball action as they made it to the finals of the Sebastopol Tournament.

The Lady Yellowjackets opened the week with a 54-43 win over Leake County. They then defeated Lake 55-33 in the first round of the Sebastopol tournament. Union scored a big win in the semifinals of the tournament as they knocked off Philadelphia 52-47 in the tournament semifinals. Then in the finals on Saturday night, they dropped a 42-41 loss to Enterprise.

“It was a good week for us,” Coach Matt Wilbanks said. “We picked up a big win over Philadelphia. We came out a little flat in the final game but we came close.”

The Union girls come in with a 4-3 record.

The Union boys won two of four games. They dropped a 61-47 decision to Leake County. They opened the Sebastopol tournament with a 46-27 win over Lake. Then the Yellowjackets dropped a 46-40 decision to Philadelphia in the semifinals and won 76-27 over Enterprise in the consolation game. The Union boys opened the week with a 4-3 record.

Union will play in the Leake Central tournament this weekend. They take on host Leake Central on Friday night and Morton on Saturday.


Lady Yellowjackets 54

Leake County 43

Mackenzie Dolan scored 18 points to lead the Lady Yellowjackets past Leake County.

Leading 24-17 at the half, Union outscored Leake County 30-26 in the second half to take the win.

Parker Breland added 13 points and Shania Moore added 12.


Lady Yellowjackets 55

Lake 33

Union went up 33-11 at the half and held on for the win.

Breland led with 12 points while Dolan and Kiarra McBeath both scored nine points.


Lady Yellowjackets 52

Philadelphia 47

Union hung with Philadelphia for three quarters and pulled away in the final period.

Philadelphia led 14-11 after the first quarter. The Lady Tornadoes outscored Union 19-15 in the second quarter to go up 33-26 at the half.

Union gained some ground in the third quarter, outpointing the Lady Tornadoes 11-6. Trailing 39-37 going into the final quarter, Union outscored the Lady Tornadoes 15-8 in the final period to take the win.

Breland scored 22 points to lead Union. Dolan scored 11 points and Moore added seven.


Enterprise 42

Enterprise held off the Lady Yellowjackets to post their second win of the season over Union.

The two teams played in the second game of the season with Enterprise winning 50-47.

Union started off slow and trailed 20-12 at the half. Union made up some ground in the third quarter, outscoring Enterprise 16-10 to trail 30-28 heading into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a battle but the Lady Bulldogs held on for the win.

Breland and Dolan both finished with 16 points.


Leake County 61

Leake County outscored Union 20-12 in the second quarter and held on for the victory.

Leake County led 26-20 at the half. The Gators would outscore Union 12-8 in the third quarter and held off the Yellowjackets in the fourth quarter.

P.J. Gage led Union with 19 while J.T. Vance and Jay Norris both added nine points.


Yellowjackets 46

Gage scored 17 point to lead Union past Lake.

Union went up 17-6 in the first quarter. The Hornets outscored the Yellowjackets 10-7 in the second quarter but Union led 24-16 at the half. Union would outscore Lake 22-11 in the second half to claim the win.

Norris added 12 points while Vance and Jamarion Harmon both added six points.


Philadelphia 46

Union played the Philadelphia Tornadoes close but the second quarter did them in.

The score stood at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter. Philadelphia outscored Union 11-5 in the second period to go up 20-14 at the half. Both teams scored 26 points in the second half.

Vance led with 14 points while Gage and Norris both scored six points.


Union 76

Enterprise 26

The Yellowjackets scored 27 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second to take a 48-8 lead at the half and put away Enterprise.

Norris led with 19 points while Stephen Lewis added 13. Harmon scored 12 points and Moore added 11.
