Lake sweeps Union in baseball

The Union Yellowjackets lost a pair of games with Lake last week but landed in the Class 2-A state playoffs as the No. 3 team out of Region 5-2A.
Union dropped a 1-0 decision in the first meeting of the two teams 4-2 in the second game 4-2. The Yellowjackets will play either Mize or Richton in the first round of the plays. Game one will be on the road while the second game will be home on Friday. A third game, if necessary, will be away.
Union entered the week with an 11-11 overall record and 6-4 region record. Lake won the region with Enterprise coming in second.
It was a pitchers duel with the Hornets of Lake coming out on top.
Dustin Bates took the loss despite striking out 11 batters.
Lake scored its run in the fifth inning. Union did not get a hit during the game.
The Hornets scored one in the first and three in the third as they held on for the victory.
Union scored its runs in the seventh.
Jake Rawson took the pitching loss. He had three strike outs.
Walker Kelly hit two singles to lead Union. Adam Richardson and Ryan Baysinger both hit a single.
