Leake Academy’s football season came to an end Friday night as they dropped a 28-0 decision to Indianola Academy in the second round of the Class AAA playoffs.

The Rebels finished with a 7-5 record. Indianola Academy improved to 12-0. They host Columbia Academy Friday in the third round of the playoffs.

“The kids played hard,” Coach Brian Pickens said. “We had a tough opponent in Indianola. They have a strong group coming through right now and they are going to be tough to beat.

“I was proud of our seniors. They really stepped up and worked hard. We have a good group coming back. Now it’s time for our juniors to step up and work hard to get better during the off season. We have a good group coming back.”

Indianola Academy scored a touchdown in each of the four quarters of the game.

Indianola finished the game with 20 first downs and 362 yards of total offense. Leake Academy had five first downs and 109 yards of total offense. The Rebels had 75 yard rushing and 34 passing.

Sam Wilder was the leading rusher with 34 yards while Shawn Myers had 33 markers. Keric Estep caught three passes for 33 yards.

Pickens said he was proud of the team’s effort as they improved on a 3-8 record in 2016.

“Our goal was to improve and I think we made a lot of progress over last year,” Pickens said. “Now we want to continue to progress next season.”
