The Leake Academy Rebels will wind down the regular prep basketball season with two games this week.

The Rebels were scheduled to play at Pillow Academy Tuesday, weather permitting. The final game is slated at home against Clinton Christian.

The Leake Academy Lady Rebels enter the week with a 27-1 record. They closed out District 2-AAA play last week with a 54-26 win over Heritage and a 50-37 victory over Winston Academy.

The Rebels stand at a 21-3. They defeated Heritage 45-42 and Winston 76-63.

Leake Academy will be the host site for the district tournament next week. The annual district junior high tournament will be held this week at Canton Academy.

The Lady Rebels took the early lead as they claimed the win.

Leading 12-5 after the first quarter, the Lady Rebels outscored Heritage 29-4 in the second quarter and led 41-9 at the half.

Miriam Prince led with 15 points. Hannah Smith scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Ashley Smith scored eight points.

Winston Academy 37

After a relatively close first half, the Lady Rebels put the game away in the third quarter.

The Lady Rebels went up 20-14 at the half. They outscored Winston 16-6 in the third quarter and carried a 36-20 edge into the final quarter.

Emmi Harkins led with 11 points and eight rebounds. Sydni Tangle added 10 points and five rebounds while Clancy Scott and Kelsey 

Tangle both added eight points.

The Rebels were looking to avenge a 56-46 loss to the Patriots on January 4. They needed to beat the Patriots by more than 10 points to claim the No. 1 seed in the upcoming district tournament.

“We were up by 10 points at one point in the fourth quarter but then they made a couple of shots,” Coach Phil Shepard said. “We guarded well. We turned it into a half court, grind it out type of game.”

Heritage led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Rebels outscored the Patriots 15-8 in the second quarter and posted a 22-20 halftime lead.

Leake Academy would outscore the Patriots 15-8 in the third quarter and carried a 37-28 lead into the final quarter. The Patriots battled back but the Rebels held on for the win.

Sam Wilder led with 12 points. Daniel Young and Will-Lawson Harkins both scored 10 points.

The Rebels got off to a good start and held on to take the win over Winston Academy.

Leake Academy led 26-15 after the first quarter. Winston battled back, outscoring the Rebels 16-9 in the second quarter. At the half, Leake Academy led 34-31.

The Rebels had a 17-13 scoring edge in the third quarter and carried a 51-43 lead into the final quarter. They would outscore the Patriots 25-19 in the final eight minutes of play to take the victory.

Wilder scored 19 points to lead the Rebels. Harkins added 14 points while Matt Clair and Young both scored 12 points and Clayton Malone put in 11.
