There are now 12 teams that have not won a Super Bowl because the Philadelphia Eagles on their third try finally secured their first Super Bowl.

The Eagles held off Tom Brady and the Patriots to win Super Bowl LVII, 41-33. The teams combined for over 1,150 yards, which is the most in any NFL game.

Philadelphia Eagle All-Pro defensive back Malcolm Jenkins is married to Laurel native Morrisa Barnes. They met on Facebook while she was attending USM and he was at Ohio State. He was the Saints' first round draft pick in 2009 and the two were married in 2012. Morrisa's mother is Mary Ann Barnes, who is a retired Laurel City Schools teacher. Mrs. Barnes was recently on the HGTV show Hometown as she had her newly purchased house remodeled.

Former Jackson State and Houston Oiler great Robert Brazile was selected for induction into the Pro Football 2018 Hall of Fame. Brazile will be enshrined on August 4 in Canton, Ohio. The former JSU linebacker will join Tiger greats Walter Payton, Lem Barney and Jackie Slater in Canton. Nicknamed Dr. Doom, he was a seven-time pick as All-Pro for the Houston Oilers. He was the 1975 NFL Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-NFL 1970s Decade team. While playing at Jackson State in 1974, he had nine interceptions and a JSU record of 129 tackles.

Saints news

The National Football League gave out their annual awards. Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore of the Saints were named the NFL’s offensive and defensive Rookie of the Year, respectively. It is the first time that teammates won these awards since 1967 Detroit Lions teammates Lem Barney and Mel Farr won these awards. Tom Brady won his fifth NFL MVP and J. J. Watts won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. Watts helped raise $37 million in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Longtime Saints radio announcer Jim Henderson is stepping down after 31 years of calling their games. The New York native was one of the best in the business. The Saints will have a hard time replacing Henderson.

The New Orleans Saints will host Philadelphia, Washington, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and the L.A. Rams besides their South Division foes Atlanta, Carolina and Tampa this year in the Superdome. The Steelers have not visited New Orleans since the 2010 season.

Spring football/Baseball TV

Ole Miss football will play host to the Grove Bowl on Saturday, April 7.  The Rebels will begin spring practice on February 27. The MSU Bulldogs will host their spring game on Saturday, April 21. The Bulldogs will begin spring practice on March 20th.

MSU and Ole Miss will have nine baseball games televised nationally.

The Rebels will visit Starkville on April 7-9, and all those games will be on TV. The first MSU game will be telecasted on March 6 against New Mexico. The Rebels' first game will be on March 16 when the team hosts Tennessee. USM baseball announced that all tickets for the three-game series opener against Mississippi State have been sold out.

Former Mississippi State football player Joe Judge (2000-04) is the special teams coach for the New England Patriots.

Former USM assistant football coach  (2000-02) Chad O’Shea is the wide receiver coach for the Patriots.

Former Belhaven and Mississippi College head coach Norman Joseph was the quarterback coach of Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson at NE Louisiana in 1990.
