The Neshoba Central basketball teams got their seasons off on the right foot as they swept New Hope on the road Saturday.

The Neshoba Central girls won their game 53-24 over the Lady Trojans, while the Rockets dominated New Hope 64-40.

Neshoba Central has two home games this week. They were to host Choctaw Central on Tuesday and Northeast Lauderdale on Thursday.

Jacob McMillan scored 19 points to lead the Neshoba Central boys in their win over New Hope.

Leading 18-11 after the first quarter, the Rockets scored 27 points in the second period while limiting New Hope to 14. At the half, the Rockets led 45-25. The Rockets outscored New Hope 19-15 in the second half.

Coby McMillan and Zane Lilly both scored 15 points  while Josh Isaac added 14 points.

Jaleyisa Jim scored 15 points and Carly Keats added 14 points to lead the Lady Rockets past New Hope.

The Lady Rockets went up 20-7 after the first quarter. They outscored the Lady Trojans 12-11 in the second quarter to lead 32-18 at the half. Neshoba Central limited New Hope to six points in the second half while putting in 21 points.

“We really played well,” Coach Fred Morris said. “We played outstanding defense and defended well.. We pushed the ball up the court in our transitional game. We scored in our transitional game. There was little to complain about. But I expect we will be tested hard this week.”

Hama’ya Fielder added 10 points.
