The Neshoba Central Rockets returned to action Saturday as they opened their 2017-2018 basketball season with a with a 72-45 win over McComb in the Canton High School Classic.

“I thought we played pretty well,” Coach Jerry Byrd said. “We made some of our outside shots and ran our transitional offense well.

“It was a good effort. But we still have a lot of work to do in the gym as we try to get better.”

Trajan Fielder scored 24 points to lead the Rockets. Jacob McMillan added 21 points and Coby McMillan scored 13.

The Neshoba Central girls dropped a 50-37 decision to McComb.

McComb outscored Neshoba Central 18-8 in the second quarter and led 32-21 at the half. That was the difference as the teams played even in the second half. Hailey Billie led with 12 points and Jasmine Chickaway added seven.

Neshoba Central was to visit Choctaw Central on Tuesday. They visit Northeast Lauderdale on Thursday and play at West Point the following Tuesday.
