Both Union High School basketball teams won two-out-of-three games last week.

The Union boys started the week with a 66-41 Region 4-2A loss to Philadelphia. The Yellowjackets bounced back to beat Lake 66-30 and Stringer 61-51.

The Union girls dropped a 49-37 loss to Philadelphia. The Lady Yellowjackets came back to crush Lake 42-9 and Stringer 60-14.

Union has two region games this week as they close out the regular season. Union was to visit Philadelphia on Tuesday and then visit Newton High School on Friday.

The Union girls entered the week with a 14-9 overall record and a 4-2 region record. The Yellowjackets stand at 13-12 and 4-2.

Philadelphia took a big halftime lead and held on to beat the Yellowjackets.

The Tornadoes led 36-15 at the half and held on for the win. J.T. Vance and Casey Morris both scored 12 points for Union.

Lake 30

The Yellowjackets came on strong in the second half to defeat the Lake Hornets.

Union led 15-10 after the first quarter. They outscored Lake 14-10 in the second quarter and led 29-20 at the half. The Yellowjackets outscored Lake 37-10 in the second.

Vance led with 14 points while Jamar Jones added 11. P.J. Gage added nine points while Jamarion Harmon added eight points, and Jay Norris scored six.

Stringer 51

Union took the lead early in the game and held on to defeat the Stringer Red Devils.

Union led 16-8 after the first quarter. Stringer came back in the second quarter, outpointing Union 14-11. At the half, Union led 27-22. Union would outscore the Red Devils 34-29 in the second half.

Gage led with 19 points while Vance and Jay Norris both added 14 points. Michael McDonald scored 11 points.         

Union opened the season at Stringer and won a 62-42 decision.

Union led in the first half but saw the Philadelphia girls rally for a victory last Tuesday.

Union led 11-7 after the first quarter. Philadelphia outscored Union 10-9 in the second half. At the half, the Lady Yellowjackets led 20-17.

Philadelphia went ahead in the third quarter as they outpointed Union 19-7 in the third quarter. Leading 36-24 heading into the final period, the Lady Tornadoes had a 13-10 scoring edge to put the game away.

Mackenzie Dolan led Union with11 points.

The young Lake girls were no match for Union.

Union led 52-3 at the half. Parker Breland led with 18 points and Ansley Rigby scored 11.

It was more of the same as Union rolled over Stringer.
