9/28/2005 6:00:00 PM Mini-storage units burglarized; lawn mowers, freezers taken
A variety of household items from freezers and washing machines to lawn mowers and furniture have been reported stolen from several mini-storage buildings over the past month.
Several items were reported stolen from Byars Mini-Storage on Gum Street and Hillman’s Mini-Storage on East Myrtle St. last Wednesday after owners found padlocks cut from doors.
Similar burglaries were reported at the Gum Street facility earlier this month.
Chief of Police David Edwards said several renters have not checked their belongings to see if they remain intact.
“We’ve had a lot of these burglaries lately. They appear to be stealing items for their own personal use. We’re still asking anybody that has items missing from storage buildings to report it to police,” Edwards said.
