Neshoba County saw its unemployment rate climb to 10.5 percent in May after dipping the month before to 8.7 percent.
The county's rate was higher than the state's jobless rate of 9.6 percent and the national rate of 9.1 percent.
The number of unemployed persons in the county rose from 1,170 in April to 1,450 in May.
The county's total workforce was at 13,810 for the month.
The 10.5 percent jobless rate was the highest Neshoba County has seen for the month over the past five years, according to the latest data available from the state Employment Commission.
The lowest rate for the month was in 2007 when it was at 5 percent.
May 2009 saw only 24 counties in Mississippi posting unemployment rates less than or equal to the state's rate of 9.6 percent.
Rankin County had the lowest rate at 6 percent followed by Lamar County at 6.4 percent.
Unemployment rates increased or remained the same in all but two counties. Fifty-four counties reported double-digit rates for the month while seven reported rates greater than or equal to 15 percent.
