8/19/2009 6:00:00 PM Tribe forms construction group
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has enacted an ordinance to establish its newest venture, Choctaw Construction Group, Inc.
The creation of the new business endeavor allows CCG to serve as the parent holding company for construction operations with three subsidiary companies currently in operation: IKBI, Inc., Choctaw Electrical, Inc. and Choctaw Design and Construction, Inc.
The incorporation of CCG allows for all of the Tribe's construction business opportunities to channel through this independently-operated corporation and its subsidiaries.
IKBI, Inc. is no stranger to the construction industry. Since its inception in 2004, IKBI, Inc. remains one of the Tribe's most successful construction companies operating within the states of Mississippi and Louisiana.
Some of IKBI, Inc.'s project highlights include the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center, the A-3 Rocket Test Stand at NASA/Stennis Space Center, and most recently the USCG Sector New Orleans Emergency Operations Center in New Orleans, La.
"The success that IKBI Inc. has achieved over the past five years has allowed us to expand our construction business to benefit our clientele not only throughout the state, but within the southeast region," said Charlie Benn, chairman of CCG's Board of Directors. "We are very proud of IKBI, Inc. as it now serves as the cornerstone of this progress."
Introducing a new spark to the Tribally-owned businesses, Choctaw Electrical operates as the first ever tribally-owned electrical company.
With lead personnel having 26 years of experience in the electrical field, CE specializes in all types of residential, commercial and industrial projects.
A few of its project highlights include working with the U.S. Coast Guard and most recently, the Choctaw TechParc, to install lighting that is energy efficient and eco-friendly.
"IKBI's continued growth gave us the opportunity to increase our market area and establish the new companies to conveniently serve our clients and reach out to new customers on a broader spectrum," said Jeff Graham, president and CEO, CCG.
Choctaw Design & Construction provides design-build, civil construction and general construction services throughout the eastern half of the U.S.
With the current success of IKBI, Inc. operating in Mississippi and Louisiana, CD&C will assist by expanding to the job market allowing IKBI, Inc. to focus on their clients in and around the state while CD&C focuses on all other business throughout the eastern portion of the U.S.
Choctaw Construction Group, Inc. is a tribally-chartered corporation of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians doing business as Chahta Enterprise.
CCG serves as the parent holding company for IKBI, Inc., Choctaw Electrical, Inc. and Choctaw Design & Construction, Inc. which provides quality construction services to governmental clients and prime contractors.
Established in 2009, CCG is located at 300 Choctaw Town Center, Suite 305 in Choctaw, Miss.
