Two passengers in a pickup truck escaped injury after the driver swerved to miss another vehicle and struck a utility pole Wednesday afternoon, police said.
A black Ford F-150 pickup truck with two young female passengers struck the pole at the corner of Water Avenue and Beacon Street in front of Perry Construction Co. snapping it in two.
Several electrical lines were down, causing brief power outages throughout the city.
Beacon Street was blocked and police were rerouting traffic while several crews from Philadelphia Utilities were making repairs.
