Club celebrates with festive theme

The GFWC-MFWC Philadelphia Woman's Club held its February meeting in the beautiful home of Pat Mioton with a Valentine luncheon. Hostesses for this lovely meeting were Joan Copeland, Pat Mioton, Phyllus Robinson, and Suanne Williamson.

A very festive theme was used to decorate the tables which included vases of red and white roses with baby's breath and balloons. Red, white and pink teddy bears and red Valentine boxes of different sizes were also used.

President Pat Mioton welcomed members, guests, and special Crystal Williamson.

After the pledge of allegiance to the flag, Gail Coats offered a very timely and informative inspiration on the history of Valentine's Day.

Following a delicious meal, Pat Mioton invited each member to introduce her guest.  Then Suanne Williamson introduced guest speaker, Mrs. Crystal Williamson.

Mrs. Williamson has delighted audiences all over the world on both the concert and operatic stage. She obtained her Master of Music degree from California State University, Fullerton on the highest vocal scholarship of the Music Department.

She also won and placed in various vocal competitions. Crystal kept her audience spellbound through several operatic arias as well as several other familiar love songs. Everyone enjoyed her beautiful and talented entertainment. This area is blessed to have such a talented individual making her home in Neshoba County with her husband Parish.

Rosanell Phillips, Chairperson of the Nominating Committee, presented the new slate of officers for the years 2014-2015 who will be installed during the May meeting.

They are as follows: president, Elizabeth Frohse; vice president, Mary Marshall; recording secretary, Suanne Williamson; corresponding secretary, Barbara Thaggard; treasurer Jeanette McNeil; reporter Rosanell Phillips; parliamentarian, Pat Mioton.

Members and guests attending this meeting included: Gail Coats, Stacy Cook, Ayla, Joan Copeland, Elizabeth Frohse, Jean Marshall, Mary Marshall, Madonna May, JoBeth McGilbra, Betty Mooney, Pat Mioton, Rosanell Phillips, Clara Reynolds,

Phyllus Robinson, Sue Saxon, Barbara Thaggard, and Suanne Williamson. Guests attending were Laura McKee, Dana Morgan, Margaret Thomas, Dorothy Thomas,

and special guest Crystal Williamson.

Jean Marshall asked members to remember "Pots for Patients."

Flower pots are needed for one of the projects sponsored by the club.

Jean stated that these include big or small, clay or plastic, and old or new pots.

Patients and residents at the Neshoba County Nursing Home paint, plant, and care for the pots in their "pass-a-long garden" at the facility.

In addition to beautiful plants and flowers, they grow tomatoes and seasonal vegetables which the kitchen prepares and serves with their meals. This need for pots can be met by anyone wishing to help.

Your pots may be taken to the Neshoba County Animal Clinic at 641 E. Main St. in Philadelphia.   Cash donations are also gladly accepted.  Any question? Call 601-656-1485.

After encouraging members to attend the District II meeting to be held in Enterprise, Miss., Pres. Pat Mioton adjourned the meeting.
