Dupree to host non-sanctioned gaited horse show at coliseum
By STEVE SWOGETINSKY
Sports Editor

The Double Duce Stables, owned by Philadelphia High School football great Marcus Dupree, will host a non-sanctioned gaited horse show this Saturday at the Neshoba Coliseum.

The show starts at 5 p.m.

Dupree has been raising and training horses for the past 20 years and owns six. He added that he is expecting riders to come in from all over the state, Louisiana and Alabama.

"This show is for amateurs," Dupree said. "It will give people who haven't shown that much a chance to perform. We will offer all of the classes."

Dupree will have three of his horses entered.

Gaited horses are horse breeds that have natural gaited tendencies, that is, the ability to perform one of the gaits that is the smoothest to ride, intermediate speed four-beat horse gaits, collectively referred to as ambling gaits, according to Internet sources. In most "gaited" breeds, an ambling gait is a hereditary trait. However, some representatives of these breeds may not always gait. Many horses can both trot and amble.

Categories include Lead Line, Halter Mares and Geldings, Halter Stallions, Open Padded Racking, Juvenile Flat Shod, Open padded Walking, Horses For Handicapped Kids, Open Flatshod, Ladies Flatshod,  Open Gaited Speed, Open Spotted, Juvenile Padded Walking Racking, Water In A Glass, Juvenile Spotted, Open Ladies Padded, Speed Racking, Flatshod Championship and Padded Racking Championship.

The entry Fee is $3 for classes 1-10 and 12-16. Prizes will include ribbons, feed and trophies. Entry fee is $10 for championship classes

Championship Classes payback is $125, $50, $25.

A portion of the proceeds go to Horses for Handicapped Kids charity.
