Fourteen contestants will vie for the title of Choctaw Indian Princess during the opening night of the 60th annual Choctaw Indian Fair tonight at the Pearl River Amphitheater at 7 p.m.
The pageant provides young Choctaw ladies the opportunity to showcase their abilities as an ambassador. Categories range from formal dress, traditional dress, speech and interview skills.
The princess, as Tribal ambassador, travels around the country, many times with the Tribal Miko, to promote the Tribe.
This year's contestants are:
Mahli Jaynae Bell, 16, daughter of Jason Sr. and Crystal Bell of the Tucker community. She is being sponsored by Applied Geo Technologies, Inc.
Martika Deidra Bell, 17, daughter of Thurman and Dorothy Bell of the Bogue Chitto community. She is sponsored by the Gaming Properties of the Pearl River Resort.
Mylyndie Hoyot Ima Bell, 19, daughter of Hayward and Annie Bell of the Bogue Chitto community. She is sponsored by the Bogue Chitto Development Club.
Tiffani LeAnn Briscoe, 18, daughter of Melanie Benn of the Tucker community and Robert Briscoe of the Pearl River community. She is sponsored by Capitol Coverage.
Mercedes Star Cotton, 18, daughter of Robert and Patricia Cotton of the Pearl River community. She is sponsored by the Choctaw Tribal School System, Division of Schools.
Rakisha Ann Guyette, 17, daughter of Doris Guyette of the Pearl River community. She is sponsored by Chahta Alla Youth Council.
Antonia Jim, 16, daughter of Angeline Jim of the Pearl River community. She is sponsored by the Pearl River Development Club.
Courtney Elaine Nickey, 17, daughter of Wendy and Warren Clegg and Levern Nickey of the Red Water community. She is sponsored by the Choctaw Health Center Employees Association.
Demetrice Mae Patrick, 16, daughter of Robert and Peggy Patrick of the Conehatta community. She is sponsored by the Conehatta Development Club.
