Alabama man tased at checkpoint
An Alabama man was arrested on drug charges last week after he was tased multiple times for resisting arrest at a roadblock north of Burnside.
The man, Dondi Parnell Wilson Johnson, 35, 3569 Loran Road, Hoover, Ala., was arrested on Aug. 16 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, fleeing arrest, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, driving under a suspended license, no proof of insurance, and improper equipment, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.
Johnson also faces a charge of attempted murder in Jefferson County, Alabama, Clark said.
Clark said he has communicated with the United States Marshal Service, and it is likely Johnson will be extradited to Jefferson County on the murder charge.
Johnson’s passenger, Tymicka Summers, was also arrested. Summers, 44, 711 4th Way South West in Fayette, Ala., was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Deputies first encountered the duo at about 4:30 a.m. when they spotted a black Mitsubishi Galant driven by Johnson almost stop while approaching a safety checkpoint on Highway 15 North near the intersection of Dunn Road, according to Clark.
When Johnson pulled up to the checkpoint, Clark said he presented deputies an Alabama identification card but noted his driver’s license had been suspended “for many years.”
Clark said deputies also spotted a bag of gummy bears on top of the center console.
The deputies got Johnson and his passenger out of the vehicle and received permission to search the vehicle. Clark said initially, deputies did not see the gummy bears on top of the console but found them under the passenger seat. Inside the bag of gummy bears, Clark said deputies found a number of individually wrapped crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine.
As deputies attempted to arrest Johnson, he resisted the arrest and attempted to flee. Clark said the deputies present had to deploy their Tasers multiple times to subdue Johnson.
