Aldermen approve purchasing trucks for Street Department

Four new pickup trucks are being added to the city Street Department’s fleet at a cost of $186,524.

The new trucks include two Ford F-550s and two Dodge ¾-ton crew cab trucks, all of which will be purchased from Landers Ford South in Southaven under a state contract.

The purchase follows action by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen at last Tuesday’s meeting.

Officials said the funds would come from the Modernization Used Tax Bank Account.

“We had some available funds outside of the general fund budget that allowed us to replace some of these worn-out trucks,” said Street Department Superintendent Patrick Gray.

Gray said that the new trucks will serve multiple roles within the department, such as a supervisor truck, a foreman truck, a brush truck, and a leaf truck. The ¾-ton trucks are expected to be ready by the end of this month, while the F-550s are anticipated to arrive in October.

“I’m grateful that after all these years, the Street Department is finally getting some recognition and a return on the work we do for the city. I’m just thankful,” Gray added.
