Baseball and softball is in full swing for local teams
Baseball and softball is in full swing for local teams, with several off to hot starts early on in the season.
Neshoba Central baseball had a great week last week, picking up a 9-0 win over Choctaw Central and a 5-3 win over Pearl, after falling 4-3 to Southeast Lauderdale earlier in the week. The Rockets now sit at 8-4 on the season and are off for the week due to spring break.
Neshoba Central softball was dominant last week, going 3-0 with an 18-1 win over Choctaw Central and wins over Eupora and East Webster in a Starkville tournament. The Lady Rockets currently hold a 7-2 record and will play Brandon and Harrison Central on Friday in tournament play at West Lauderdale.
Choctaw Central baseball is off to a slow start so far this season, currently sitting at 1-7 on the season, according to GameChanger. The Warriors fell 15-3 and 12-0 to Newton County, along with a 9-0 loss to Neshoba Central last week. Choctaw Central will play at Lake on Tuesday and at Sebastopol on Wednesday to round out the week’s schedule.
As for Choctaw Central softball, the Lady Warriors are off to a solid 7-2 start to the season. Choctaw Central won 16-6 over Starkville, 16-3 over Northeast Lauderdale, 4-3 over Ethel, and 15-0 over Lake Cormorant, while falling 18-1 to Neshoba Central last week. The Lady Warriors have a packed week coming up as well, as they are scheduled to take on Sebastopol and Clarkdale on Wednesday and Lake and Union on Thursday in tournament play.
Philadelphia baseball is starting strong this season, opening with a 6-1 record, according to MaxPreps. The Tornadoes picked up a 6-3 win over Kemper County and 8-2 and 9-2 wins over Scott Central last week. They are not scheduled to have any games this week due to spring break.
Philadelphia softball is off to an 0-5 start to the season. The Lady Tornadoes fell 20-1 and 19-4 to Sebastopol to open region play last week. They are not scheduled to have any games this week due to spring break.
Union baseball is playing well to open the season, currently holding a 6-3 record. The Yellow Jackets split a two-game series with Eupora last week, winning 7-6 and losing 17-1. Union is scheduled to host Southeast Lauderdale on Tuesday as their only game of the week.
Union softball started slow, but have found their stride as of late, winning their last three games. The Lady Yellow Jackets earned a pair of wins over J.Z. George last week, 18-0 and 18-3, and also notched a 10-6 win over Southeast Lauderdale. Union will take on Brandon on Friday, followed by a doubleheader against Lake and West Lauderdale on Saturday.
Leake Academy baseball has been dominant so far this season, earning an 8-1 record so far. The Rebels beat Central Hinds 14-1, Ethel 9-5, and Newton County Academy 13-0 last week. Leake Academy is scheduled to play at Kemper Academy on Tuesday and will play a doubleheader against East Webster on Thursday at home.
