Choctaw voters go to the polls to select Chief, Tribal Council
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will hold elections on Tuesday for the positions of Tribal Chief and members of the Tribal Council.
Registered Tribal voters will cast their ballots on Tuesday, June 6, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. This year, the new location for each community polling site will be at their respective COVID Emergency Relief Facility (CERF) building
According to the Choctaw Community News, here are the candidates in their respective races include:
TRIBAL CHIEF
(3 candidates) - Phyliss J. Anderson, Tarina Kay Anderson, and incumbent Cyrus L. Ben.
TRIBAL COUNCIL
BOGUE CHITTO (3 candidates, 1 position) - incumbent Ronnie Henry, Sr., NatashaJohn, and Davita McClelland.
BOGUE HOMA (4 candidates, 1 position) - incumbent Michael Briscoe, Kimo McCombs, Vernandall Nickey, and Berdie M. Steve.
CONEHATTA (9 candidates, 1 position) - Rodgrick Anderson, Eric Billy, Sr., Troy Chickaway, Rockky Isom, Roddy Nickey, Henry L. Shumake, Sr., Jesse Thomas, incumbent Timothy Thomas, Sr., and Wilburn Williamson, Jr.
PEARL RIVER (20 candidates, 1 position) - Norma Bacon, Melinda M. Ben, Robert D. Ben, Kevin Briscoe, Oretta Conrad, Robert Garcia, Jr., incumbent Nigel Gibson, William Daniel Isaac, Jimmy Jim, Alan Jimmie, Kyle John, James R. Johnson, Robert Dean Martin, Lola McMillan Parkerson, Austin Tubby, Lakeishia C. Wallace, Barbara Wesley, Christopher Lee Willis, Joshua T. Willis, and Raymond Willis, Jr.
RED WATER (11 candidates, 2 positions) - Ricky L. Anderson, Sr., Teri Anderson, Darian Blake Edwards, Tia Grisham, incumbent Richard T. Isaac, Samuel John, Randall Shane Shumake, Anthony Steve, Jr., Valarie Lynn Sutton, Jeremy Wesley, and Michael A. Willis.
STANDING PINE (5 candidates, 1 position) - Jaric Anderson, Sr., Jonathan Denson, Benjamin Farve, Ashley Primer, and incumbent Richard Sockey.
TUCKER (6 candidates, 1 position) - Brian Davis, incumbent Wilma Simpson-McMillan, Layla Terese Taylor, Kevin Taylor, Sr., Ashland Nicole Willis, and Dorothy Bell Wilson.
