James H. Haddock, former mayor of Philadelphia, is the new chairman of the Neshoba County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. This announcement was made by Charles Mars, retiring chairman, who served in that capacity for four years.

The Chamber of Commerce Retail Trade Committee met Tuesday and laid the groundwork for a community trade promotion to take place about the middle of October.

The First Pentecostal Church of Philadelphia will celebrate its 11th annual homecoming this weekend, with services Friday night, Saturday night, and special services Sunday with Rev. J.T. Payne of Porterdale, Georgia, as the special speaker.

A.J. Chaney, president of the Board of Supervisors of Neshoba County, announced that the cooperative imported fire ant program was to begin in Neshoba County this week.

During the month of October, there will be a concerted effort by many Neshoba Countians to reach every citizen of the county in a $46,000 fund-raising effort for the 1974 United Way campaign.

Philadelphia High School will observe its 1984 homecoming Friday night with the homecoming court to be presented during the halftime of the game between the Tornadoes and the Caledonia Confederates. The homecoming queen, Miss Apryl Lea, will be crowned by the student council president, Stacie Therrell.

A Neshoba Central biology and anatomy teacher is among 53 nominees for the 1995 Mississippi Teacher of the Year. Jackie S. Latimer earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi State University.

The Choctaw Central girls basketball team and their coach, Walter Wilson, took part in the official opening of the Smithsonian's new National Museum of the American Indian last week in the Nation's capital.

A Meridian company was hired last week to make necessary concrete repairs to the 50-year-old Neshoba Central High School after an engineer determined its lifetime is limited and that parts of the facility could have to be vacated if structural issues worsen.
