The Neshoba Central JV football team showed some major promise for the future of the Rocket football program, as they just finished the season with a perfect 7-0 record.

With wins over teams such as West Lauderdale, Newton County, Winona, and Choctaw Central, the Rocket JV team continued to show improvement as the season progressed, which gives the Neshoba Central community plenty to be excited about.

“This group of players have shown that they are willing and ready to take the future of Rocket Football to new heights over the next several years,” Neshoba Central JV football coach Curtis Blackburn said. “They have more importantly shown that they are able to handle adversity, which will carry them throughout life, in the fact that they executed three game winning drives to remain undefeated. The quality of never quitting was one that they displayed throughout the season. We as coaches are ecstatic to see what the future holds for these young men.”

The Neshoba Central JV team had several players on both sides of the ball that stood out and paved the way to an undefeated record, which will be names to know going forward for the Neshoba Central community.

Sam Huffman led the way at quarterback for the Rockets, being one of the key leaders on the team as a whole and leading the offense to some great performances.

“Sam Huffman did an outstanding job leading our Rocket Offense from the QB

position. Watching his growth through the season and seeing him work through

progressions and gain a better understanding of the offensive concepts and reads was exciting,” Blackburn said. “Seeing his preparation for his role as a varsity leader in the years ahead eases the tension of transitioning from a seasoned starter over the course of the next year.”

Blackburn also mentioned athletes that contributed heavily to the Rockets’ success such as CJ Spencer, Haiden Spencer, Dontarrious Loggins, D’Angelo Boler, Craig Pruitt, and Maddox Mars.

“These are several of the young players that stood out throughout the seven-game span that will soon bring excitement to the varsity Rocket Football Team,” Blackburn said. “They all had important touches (rushes or receptions) that contributed to the success of the season.”

As for the offensive and defensive lines, there is plenty of promise in those departments as well for the Neshoba Central program moving forward. Blackburn mentioned RJ Johnson, Tigris Miller, Paxton Sharp, along with several others, as names to watch for the future in the trenches for the Rockets.

“Everyone knows that these are the guys that get the least credit and deserve the most,” Blackburn said.
