Neshoba man faces felony charges in New Year’s theft
A Philadelphia man arrested in Newton County on Monday is wanted here in an unrelated crime for taking several items from a local business on New Year’s Day and selling them for scrap.
The man, Shawn Michael Dooley, 23, 1015 Golf Course Road, was arrested at the Walmart in Newton on Monday afternoon, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.
Clark said he faces charges of grand larceny and false pretense here for his alleged involvement in stealing several items from outside the Sisson Trucking Company, 1014 Weyerhaeuser Road.
Items taken include large truck rims, metal pipes and air filters.
“Anything with metal in it,” Clark said.
According to Clark, Dooley was seen on security cameras at the trucking company taking the items at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 1 while the business was closed for New Year’s Day.
“It was in broad daylight,” Clark said.
Sisson Trucking called the theft into authorities around 5 p.m. on Jan. 2. By 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 3, Clark said they had located the items at Scotty’s Recycling and Salvage off Highway 19 in Philadelphia. Clark said Scotty’s said they had received the items on Jan. 2.
The Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department has a hold on Dooley and will bring him into local custody after he is done with Newton County authorities.
In Newton County, Dooley faces charges of fleeing law enforcement, driving under a suspended license, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to obey a traffic signal, failure to yield the right of way, improper passing, no insurance, and reckless driving.
