Pair arrested on drug charges
Two women were arrested with a large amount of drugs at a safety checkpoint on Highway 15 South late last month.
The driver, Dianna Michelle Bowles, 34, 749 Scanlan Road, Decatur, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, driving under a suspended license, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of paraphernalia, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.
Clark said Bowles’s passenger, Delore Delane Sprague, 53, 13435 Highway 489, Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in a vehicle, and possession of paraphernalia.
Clark said deputies first encountered the two women at the safety checkpoint near Union on Nov. 26 at about 11:45 p.m. He said they saw a white Ford F150 driven by Bowles make a complete stop just before the checkpoint before eventually pulling up to the checkpoint.
Deputies could see Bowles and Sprague were nervous and fidgeting in the car. Specifically, Clark said they were seen moving some bags around.
Clark said the vehicle smelled of marijuana, and deputies soon established Bowles was driving under a suspended license. Deputies then received permission from Bowles to search the vehicle.
The search rendered a small bag of crystal methamphetamine behind the center console, Clark said.
In the vehicle, deputies also found a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a bag containing 74 and a half pills of at least six different varieties, and a syringe loaded with a dark liquid believed to be a mixture of methamphetamine and blood.
Clark said the pills have been sent to the state crime lab for testing. Pill brands they could identify include Xanax and Abilify.
When Sprague was brought into the Neshoba County Detention Center, Clark said they found a small bag containing more meth and a few pills hidden in her waistline.
