Rebelettes remain undefeated at 13-0
While the Leake Academy girls have rolled out to a 13-0 start, the Leake boys have been waiting for the football team to finish their season.
The Rebels played their first games with a complete roster last week and hammered Brookhaven 59-18 and Copiah 70-38 and improved to 8-1 on the season.
“We are off to a good start but have a lot of work to do,” coach Jason Morgan said. “We have only had one practice with everybody so far, but I think the whole team is excited about how good we can be by the time district play starts.”
Meanwhile, the Leake girls continued their strong play as they beat Brookhaven 60-32 and Copiah 68-30.
Leake will return to play this week as they travel to Hartfield on Tuesday and then host Pillow on Thursday. They will finish out the week with historic trip to Philadelphia.
Leake boys 59, Brookhaven 18
The Rebels dominated the first three periods and cruised to a 41-point win on Monday.
Leake jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the first period and then outscored Brookhaven 18-7 in the second to lead 39-11 at the half. Leake continued to extend its lead in the third period, outscoring Brookhaven 16-3 to take a 55-14 lead into the fourth, where each team scored four points.
Samuel Prince led Leake with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four steals while Carter Seal had eight points and 10 rebounds. Gage Warren had seven points and three assists while Majure Chandler had seven points and six rebounds.
Leake girls 60, Brookhaven 32
The Rebelettes outscored the Lady Cougars in every period and took a convincing 28-point win on Monday at the East Rankin Tournament.
Leake led 19-10 at the end of the first period and then outscored Brookhaven 20-5 in the second period to take a commanding 39-15 halftime lead. Leake continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Brookhaven 11-9 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth.
Addie Crowe led Leake with 14 points while Sarah Prince had nine points and five assists. Caroline Cheatham had eight points and five rebounds while Jenna Allen had eight points and six rebounds. Marleigh Myers had six points and six rebounds while Kylee Boykin also had seven rebounds.
Leake boys 70, Copiah 38
The Rebels outscored the Colonels in every period and cruised to a 32-point win on Tuesday.
The Rebels ran out to a 16-10 lead in the first period and outscored Copiah 14-12 in the second to lead 30-22 at the half. The Rebels then pulled away in the third period and outscored Copiah 23-4 to take a 53-26 lead going to the fourth. The Rebels took the fourth period 17-12 for the final margin.
Samuel Prince had another big game with 36 points, eight rebounds and eight steals. Matthew Nowell had nine points and four assists while Taite Edwards had nine points and Eli Cantrell chipped in eight points.
Leake girls 68, Copiah 30
The Rebels dominated the first half and cruised to a 38-point win on Tuesday at East Rankin.
Leake jumped out to a 15-5 lead and then outscored Copiah 17-4 in the second to lead 32-9 at the half. Leake continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Copiah 21-17 in the third and 15-4 in the fourth.
Sarah Prince led Leake with 16 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals. Jenna Allen also had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals. Marleigh Myers had eight points while Caroline Cheatham had six points, six assists nd four steals. Addie Crown also had six points while Brealynn Malone and Cody Breedlove also had five points.
