Supervisors approve State Aid repairs

A State Aid roads reseal project totaling about $3 million was approved by the Board of Supervisors on Monday.  

“The County Engineer will be working on putting the program together with final estimated costs and present an official program document for consideration at a later date,” said County Administrator Jeff Mayo. 

Additionally, the board is in the process of refining off-system work for this year in coordination with County Engineer Marty Crowder and Road Manager Eddie Posey. This effort will include reconstruction, base repairs, and leveling across various county roads. 

In other action, supervisors voted to:

• Approve canceling a $35,047 purchase order from Howard Technology Solutions for mounting components and installation of patrol car computers;

• Approve a requisition from Jackson Communications for mounting components and installation of patrol car computers at the cost of $25,250;

• Approve hiring of Ethan Smith with the Sheriff’s Department at $16.50 an hour effective April 10 pending a drug screen;

• Accept the resignation of Ben McDaniel as correctional officer effective March 23, and approve hiring Suzette Mixon as correctional officer effective March 19 at $13 an hour;

• Approve two work-off right-of-way easements on Road 240 and Road 373;

• Approve three permit requests from Central Water Association for road bores on 10951, 703 and 10200, 446 and a road crossings on 10890 and 814;

• Approve hiring Chance McDaniel with the Road Department at $13 an hour, and approve $0.50 pay increases for Wyatt McDaniel and Dalton Bond;

• Approve school bus turnarounds for Steve Duncan at 15370 Hwy 19 South and James Rowell at 10370 Road 294;

• Accept retirement of Emergency Management Director Darrell Wilson effective March 29.
