The Union baseball team won two out of three games last week

The Union baseball team won two out of three games last week, getting wins in the two that mattered the most. 

Union swept two games from J.Z. George in 4-2A play, winning 20-0 on Tuesday and 26-2 on Friday. Union finished the week with a 14-4 loss to Lake on Saturday. 

Union will step out of division play this week as they play at McLaurin in a two-game series. Game 1 of the series is on Monday and Union will return home on Thursday to play the second game of the series. 

Union 20, J.Z. George 0

The Yellowjackets didn’t allow a hit and took a four-inning, run rule win.

Union scored six in the first and second and finished with eight in the fourth. 

Union banged out 11 hits and drew 10 walks to take a shutout win. Samuel Allawine was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs while Hayden Donal was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Rafe Manning was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Jackson Flake was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Austin Lee singled and drove in three runs scored. Myilan Moore walked three times and scored two runs while Turner Johnson walked twice and scored two runs. Jacob Freeman also scored two runs while Kooper Fultz singled and walked twice. 

Fultz started on the mound and walked just one batter while striking out eight to pick up the win. Flake pitched the last inning and struck out two. 

Union 26, J.Z. George 2

The Yellowjackets scored a whopping 20 runs in the first inning and took a three-inning, run-rule win to complete the sweep.

After scoring 20 runs in the first Union added six more runs in the second. 

Union banged out 17 hits while no-hitting the Jaguars for the second straight game. Hayden Dolan was 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs while Turner Johnson was 3-for-3with two runs scored and three RBIs. Jacob Freeman was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs while Tanner Watkins was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Samuel Allawine singled, scored two runs and had three RBIs while Rafe Manning tripled, scored two runs and had two RBIs. Mason Tucker singled and drove in two runs while Myilan Moore singled and scored three runs. 

Freeman started on the mound and pitched one inning while Dolan, Moore, Austin Lee and Hayden Ferguson each pitched for the Yellowjackets. 

Lake 14, Union 4

The Yellowjackets fell behind early as the Hornets took a six-inning, run-rule win on Saturday. 

Lake scored two in the first and six in the third and led 8-0. Union scored three in the fourth while Lake scored two in the fourth, fifth and sixth. 

Union had just three hits and had three hit batters. Jacob Freeman singled and drove in two runs while Samuel Allawine singled and scored two runs. Hayden Dolan had Union’s other hit while Jackson Flake drove in two runs. 

Allawine started on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up eight runs with only three being earned. He gave up three hits and five walks and was tagged with the loss. Tanner Watkins pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on one hit, one walk and three hit batters. Rafe Manning got the last out for Union and gave up two unearned runs on one hit and one walk.
