Union softball, baseball squads win games
It was a good week for the Union softball and baseball teams.
The Yellowjackets won both of their games last week, blasting Quitman 12-2 and Scott Central 15-5.
The Union softball team got a power infusion from Alanee Wheeler who hit three home runs as Union beat Scott Central 16-4 and Kosciusko 9-6. They lost 13-4 on Saturday to Satsuma, Ala.
The Union baseball team will host Eupora to open division play on Tuesday as they host Eupora and will make the return trip to the Eagles on Friday.
Union softball is scheduled to return to play on Tuesday as they host Newton County and will then open division play at J.Z. George on Thursday. They will finish out the week by hosting Southeast Lauderdale on Friday.

The Yellowjackets won their fourth straight game last week with a pair of double-digit victories, beating Quitman 12-2 on Tuesday and Scott Central 15-5 on Friday.
On Tuesday, Union used a seven-run third inning to take a big lea and cruise to the five-inning win. Union had just seven hits but took advantage of nine walks and four errors. Rafe Manning was 2-for-3 while Jackson Flake was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Mason Tucker doubled and driven two runs while Jacob Freeman singled and drove in three runs. Austin Lee walked and scored three runs. Fultz started on the mound and pitched all five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three.
On Friday, Union used a pair of six-run innings to take a six-inning, run-rule win. Union had nine hits and drew six walks. Freeman was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs while Tucker Johnson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Austin Lee was 2-for-5 while Kooper Fultz walked twice and scored three runs. Sawyer Robinson, Tanner Watkins and Mason Tucker all scored two runs while Tucker had five stolen bases. Freeman started on the mound and pitched all six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Lady Yellowjackets won two out of three games last week as they beat Scott Central 16-4 and 4A contender Kosciusko 9-6 on Thursday. They finished the week with a 13-4 to Satsuma on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Union banged out 14 hits as they took a four-inning, run-rule win over Scott Central. Union pulled away with seven runs in the second and followed with three in the third and four in the fourth. Tiara Campbell was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while Alanee Wheeler doubled, homered, scored two runs and had six RBIs. Carson Capps was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Landrey Hanna was 2-for-3 with a double. Destiny Moulds tripled and drove in three runs while Maggie Atkinson singled and drove in two runs. Aubrie Coleman started in the circle and pitched four innings, giving up four unearned runs on four hits while striking out nine.
On Thursday, the Lady Yellowjackets had 10 hits and broke open the game with five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Landrey Hanna was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Tiara Campbell was 2-for-2 two doubled, two runs scored and three TBIs. Alanee homered and drove in two runs while Marquesha Davis tripled. Wheeler pitched all seven innings for Union and gave up six runs on 15 hits and three walks but struck out nine.
On Saturday, Union hosted Satsuma, Ala. and dropped a nine-run decision. Union had seven hits, led by Alanee Wheeler who was 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Wheeler took the loss, pitching the first 5 2/3 innings as she gave up 10 runs on 12 hits. Aubrie Coleman got the last four outs for Union.
