Union softball team drops three games

It was a rough week for the Union softball team, dropping all three games.

Union lost two to Clarkdale in non-division action, falling 2-1 on Tuesday and 8-4 on Thursday. Union then lost 8-1 to Lake on Saturday. 

Union will try to rebound this week as they return to division play against Eupora in a two-game series. Game 1 is Tuesday at Eupora while Game 2 is set for Thursday in Union.

Clarkdale 2, Union 1

It took eight innings but the Lady Bulldogs pulled out a one-run win on Tuesday. 

Union scored a run in the bottom of the first while Clarkdale scored one in the fourth and eighth. 

Clarkdale outhit Union 8-2 on the contest. Lauryn Roebuck was 2-for-4 with a home run to lead off the game. 

Alanee Wheeler started in the circle and pitched all eight innings for Union. She scattered eight hits and two walks while striking out 11. 

Clarkdale 8, Union 4

The Lady Bulldogs pulled away late and took a four-run win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Thursday. 

Each team scored two runs in the first inning while Clarkdale scored one in the third and three in the fifth to go up 6-2. Union scored two in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-4 before Clarkdale finished with two in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin. 

Union had eight hits in the contest. Tiara Campbell was 2-for-2 with a double while Lauryn Bishop was 2-for-3 with a double. Lauryn Roebuck and Elle Killen each singled and scored while Abigail Cleveland and Maggie Davis each singled and drove in a run. 

Cleveland took the loss for Union, pitching all six innings. She gave up eight runs, with only four earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out two.

Lake 8, Union 1

The Lady Hornets started fast and took a seven-run win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Friday. 

Lake scored four in the first, one in the second and fifth, and finished with two in the seventh. Union scored a single run in the fifth. 

Union outhit Lake 11-10 in the contest. Elle Killen was 2-for-3 while Lauryn Bishop was 2-for-4. Aspen Lovern singled and scored Union’s only run while Tiara Campbell singled and had an RBI.

Aubrie Coleman started in the circle and took the loss for Union. She pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three. Raeleigh Dickerson pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits in relief.
