A woman is dead, and a man was injured in a shooting at a nightclub on Road 410 early Sunday morning.

The dead woman has been identified as Evelyn M. Anderson, 57, of Newton, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.

The investigation determined Anderson was struck by a projectile through the wall of the club while exiting the bathroom.

Clark said the other victim, a 20-year-old male, was shot in the ankle.

On Sunday, July 28, at about 2 a.m., Neshoba County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Da Spot, a nightclub at 10500 Road 410, to a report of shots fired.

Gunfire erupted in the parking lot just after 2 a.m. as Da Spot was closing, according to witnesses.

Deputies arrived to find Anderson had been struck by a projectile when the gunfire erupted outside of the club.

The Neshoba County Medical Examiner was called to assist in the investigation and help with the cause of death.

Shortly after arriving on the scene, Clark said the Sheriff’s Office received a second call of injury from Ochsner Laird Hospital in Union. Deputies arrived to find a 20-year-old male had been shot in the right ankle.

“The victim stated he was shot as he made his way to his car, parked near the Mt. Enon Church some 100-plus yards away from the club,” Clark said.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots from the parking lot of Da Spot and from the roadway near Mt. Enon

Church. Gunshots were reported from the area of the intersection of Road 1321 and Road 410, which was over 200 yards away from the club.

“The investigation has revealed that the fatal gunshot came from the direction of the intersection near the Mt. Enon Church entrance,” Clark said. “An autopsy will be performed to assist in the investigation.”

Clark said witnesses have reported as many as 100 shots being fired. He said that number was likely exaggerated in the chaos of the gunfire as they have only been able to confirm a handful of shots being fired.

“At this point, we do not know if those firing shots were shooting in the air or at each other,” Clark said.

On Sunday morning, Clark said investigators attempted to reconstruct the night’s events by running string through some of the bullet holes in the wall.

Clark said Da Spot security searches patrons before they enter and did not report any serious confrontations or disagreements from inside the club.

Clark said if anyone has any information about the shooting, call the SO at (601) 656-1414 or East Mississippi Crime Stoppers at (855)-485-8477.
