Hair salon expansion is a couple’s dream

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, April 5 to celebrate the grand opening of Lisa’s Studio 355 on West Beacon Street.

Tim and Lisa Watkins have been immersed in the hair business since the early 90s. After being married for seven years, the couple has always envisioned expanding the salon into what it is today.

Originally known as Lisa’s Sassy Scissors, they sold the salon during the pandemic and rebranded themselves as Studio 355.

They operated out of a building near their home on Road 355 in the county for a year and a half and that’s what influenced the new name.

The couple has since relocated to town, officially reopening at their new location on March 1.

“The grand opening exceeded our expectations,” Watkins said. “I counted one time and there were 72 people inside the salon. It was exciting.”

“We’ve received nothing but positive feedback,” he added. “We are thankful to the community for supporting us and helping us fulfill our dream.”

Lisa and Tim frequently team up to serve clients and specialize in color corrections. They boast a loyal clientele, with customers often traveling from out of state to visit their salon.

“We offer a variety of services,” Watkins said. “All of our girls are well handpicked, are top notch in their field, and each one of them brings special characteristics to the table.”

Watkins said the salon specializes in precision cuts, catering to all hair types.

“What sets us apart is the years of experience Lisa and I have as a team, along with the knowledge we’ve built,” he said.

Lisa, having served on the state barber board for several years, completed her barber instructor training but prefers the hands-on work of being behind the chair to teaching.

Lisa’s Studio 355 features several master stylists and benefits from the expertise of Tamara Ward in medical-grade aesthetics, offering high-end skincare services like Botox, lip injections, and facelifts.

The salon also collaborates with dermatologists for skincare solutions.

“We cater to everybody. If they have hair and skin, we can take care of them,” Watkins said with a laugh. “We offer a variety of products that we can tailor for a prescription for anybody’s hair needs.”

Watkins said the salon is a full-service, family-friendly hair and skincare center with a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere.

“We are wanting to expand our services into nails next,” Watkins said. “We are trying to find a certified nail technician. That’s the only thing we are lacking.”

“We have plenty of openings for new clients,” he added. “We specialize in men, women, and children, offering everything from beard shaves and straight razor shaves to basic haircuts and more.”
