Highway 15 closed for bridge work

Highway 15 South at the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad bridge at Neshoba will be closed for up to two months for repairs, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced.

The closure began on Monday, Feb. 19.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark the work appears to be going smoothly.

“I think people have adapted really well,” Clark said. “We have had no negative reports whatsoever.”

Clark said MDOT has arranged for local law enforcement to keep an eye on the area and they have increased patrols on Road 325 which runs parallel to Highway 15 and he expects will have increased traffic while the bridge is repaired.

“We are going to concentrate on keeping the speed down and things in order,” Clark said.

During the closure, one lane will remain open with traffic control devices allowing travel in each direction, MDOT said in the announcement.

Crews have started with the northbound lane and once that side is complete, they will work on the southbound lane.

Motorists are advised to drive slowly and stay alert for crews and equipment, MDOT said.
