Local career-tech students visit State Capitol

Posted

Philadelphia Neshoba County Career and Technical Center law and public safety second-year students visited the state Capitol on Feb. 16.

The students learned about government and its functions at the local, state, and federal levels. Additionally, students learned about the different branches of the military and the various career fields possible in the military.

Mostly, students spent their time focusing on the differing service opportunities that exist at the local, state, and federal levels.

Students learned about fire and medical services, they learned about first aid and response to emergencies, and they learned a great deal about local, state, and federal law enforcement.

Students in the course were taught how government works and on Friday, they were given a front-row seat to see how state government functions.

Students met with State Rep. Scott Bounds of Philadelphia and Supreme Court Justice Kenny Griffis, toured the Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion, and met with Attorney General Lynn Fitch.

Students got to meet, speak, and ask questions of some of the most influential members of state government.

The class would like to thank all of those who took the time to meet with them, some of whom are likely to be our next state and local leaders.
