Supervisors approve SO computers

In-car computers for Sheriff’s deputies were approved last week by the Board of Supervisors at a cost of $112,628.

Additionally, they greenlit the purchase of related hardware and accessories amounting to $35,047.60 for modems, antennas, and warranty expenses totaling $11,810.50, along with C Spire internet service at $33.99 a month per deputy.

The enhancements to the Sheriff’s Department and its 20-vehicle fleet will be funded through $200,000 in state funding which Sheriff Eric Clark procured in July of last year.

“I have worked so hard on that,” Clark said. “I hope that really quickly we are able to prove that they are a benefit to the Sheriff’s Office and to the county, and I hope we are able to give a better service and justify why we worked so hard getting those.”

Clark remains unwavering in his pursuit of getting a mobile app approved.

The cellphone app he’s proposed aims to enhance public access by allowing users to submit tips, view current inmate information, and receive timely alerts from the Sheriff’s Department, ensuring a more efficient communication channel, Clark said.

“Hopefully there will be a life saved down the road from all of this,” Clark said.
