The Union tennis team saw its season come to an end last week.

After a 5-2 win over West Lincoln in the first round, Union lost 5-2 to Sacred Heart who took three third-set tiebreakers to take the match. 

“All of our team members played exceptionally well against this reigning state championship private school,” Union coach Jodi Williams said. “Even though our team play has come to an end, we look forward to the state tournament next week.

The Yellowjackets fell in a tight match to Sacred Heart on Thursday at East Central.

In singles, Cory Smith won 6-2, 6-3 on the boys side while Annley Howell lost 6-0, 6-4 on the girls side.

In girls doubles, Julia Harrison and Rylee Pullin lost a close match at the No. 1 spot, falling 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 in a third-set tiebreaker. In No. 2 girls doubles, Union got another point as Cecilia Burroughs and Annley Howell won 6-4, 6-2. 

In boys doubles, Jude Feasel and Jackson Johnson lost 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Cooper Capps and Hunter Sullivan lost 4-6, 6-1, 12-10 in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 2 spot.

In mixed doubles, Union lost another third-set tiebreaker as Ethan Brasher and Kinsley Johnson lost 4-6, 6-1, 13-11. 

Union 5, West Lincoln 2

The Yellowjackets got a first-round win against West Lincoln on Monday at East Central. 

In singles, Cory Smith won 6-0, 6-0 on the boys side while Denver McCoy lost 6-0, 6-3 on the girls side. 

In girls doubles, Julia Harrison and Rylee Pullin won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Cecilia Burroughs and Annley Howell lost 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.

In boys doubles, Union won both spot as Jude Feasel and Jackson Johnson won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Cooper Capps and Hunter Sullivan won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.

In mixed doubles, Ethan Brasher and Kinsley Johnson won 6-1, 6-0.
